Idiap Research Institute

The Idiap Research Institute (http://www.idiap.ch) is an independent, not-for-profit, research institute located in Martigny (Switzerland), and affliated with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology at Lausanne (EPFL), and the University of Geneva. Funded by the Federal Government, the State of Valais, and the City of Martigny, IDIAP is involved in RTD activities in statistical machine learning with applications in speech and visual processing, robotics, multimodal processing, biometric authentication, and multimedia indexing. IDIAP has an established experience in the coordination of and participation in projects related to the above domain at both the Swiss and international levels, as well as in multiple collaborative projects with the industry (including a few IDIAP spin-offs). At the national level, IDIAP was also the “Leading House” of the National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) on “Interactive Multimodal Information Management” (IM2, http://www.im2.ch). The project will be based in the Perception and Activity Understanding group with contributions of the Speech Processing, which are involved in computer vision, audio processing, applied machine learning, and the computational modeling of audio-visual human communication for a range of applications such as surveillance, Human-Robot Interactions, or multimedia content extraction. Recent FP7 projects include VANAHEIM (Video/Audio Networked surveillance system enhAncement through Human-cEntered adaptIve Monitoring) and HUMAVIPS (Humanoids with Auditory and Visual Abilities In Populated Spaces).
