How many items can I borrow?

How do I borrow/return?

Use the self-service machines to borrow, renew and return books and other items.

A book drop is available outside the Fraser Building, opposite the Library, for book returns.

Items borrowed from other libraries (called Inter-Library Loans or ILL)

Please return any items that we have obtained for you from another library to the ILL book return box beside the printers as you enter the Library.

PLEASE NOTE: Non-collected/consulted ILL items will incur a charge of £5.00

We want everyone to have fair access to our books etc so if someone else requests something you have on loan we will ask you to return it within a week. We will contact you to let you know the new due date.

This applies at all times, so if you are going to be away from campus for some time, it's a good idea to return your books before you go. Late returns will be subject to fines - a fine of £20 or more on your Library account will prevent you from borrowing, renewing or requesting.

When are my books due back?

You can check the due dates of items in your Library Account.

Items requested by other Library users may be recalled, you will be emailed the new due date if it is changed.

You can renew items up to 5 times. You do this by logging into your Library Account, as long as the items are not already overdue or have been requested by another Library user. You will not be able to renew if you have fines or charges of £20 or more. High Demand books (4 hour and 24 hour) cannot be renewed.

Renewing overdue items

If your books are already overdue, you cannot renew online. Come to the Welcome Desk on Level 2 or call on 0141 330 6704 if you need help.

Renewing items borrowed from other libraries (Inter-Library Loans)

You can apply to renew an item that we have obtained for you from another library. Please contact us at  If a renewal is possible, you will be notified of the new due date by email and a charge of £5.45 per item will be added to your Library record. You will not be able to renew if you have fines or charges of £20 or more.
